Language: Cimmerian, with no native written script save for a system of numerals related to the Futhark.
Under these wide skies, a native nomadic culture prospers. Here, the ancestries named by outsiders as Orcs and Halflings live in tribes that move across the steppes in yearly paths, expertly managing their herds of aurochs, raiding the villages and cities of the west, forming impromptu towns to winter in, and continuing long-formed alliances and rivalries with their fellow tribes.
These people were of old called Cimmerians—“the clannish people”—by the original refugees of the mythical Lemurian Empire’s fall. Some of these peoples have taken this name with pride—including, quite famously, Aquilon the Conquerer; others have rejected it as betraying a fundamentally outsider’s perspective.
To the far eastern edge of these steppes is the obscure, near-mythical Red Coast, where several colonies of Mandé have been founded in the last half-millenium.
