The Languages of Kaytriss are many and varied. Living and dead languages on the Continent are as follows.
Classical Aptalian is the language of the church of Amunism. Modern Aptalian is spoken in Old Aptah. Lemurian is the (currently dead) mother language from whence Classical Aptalian evolved.
Coppali, the native language of Coppalia, is a cousin of Modern Aptalian that is no longer mutually intelligible. This is the Lingua Franca of trade through the Continent; by default, every player character is at least conversant in it. Teutonic Coppali and Gallic Coppali are mutually intelligible dialects of Coppali spoken by all social classes of Teutanny, and the lower social classes of Gallica, respectively.
Loch is the ancestral language of Lochlann, written in a script reminiscent of the elder Futhark (runes).
Cimmerian is the language of the Cimmerian Steppe. Cimmerian has no native written script, except for a system of numerals related to the Futhark. Gallic Cimmerian is the language of the aristocracy of the Aquilonian dynasty of Gallica, a dialect of Cimmerian written in Lemurian script.
Astorian is the native language of Astoria. It is written in a script reminiscent of Ogham.
Those languages with no specified written script use Lemurian script, a letter system that evolved alongside the Lemurian language family (thus Lemurian evolved into Classical Aptalian, which evolved into Modern Aptalian & Coppali, and so on).
